Our Background

Maidstone East District Scouts were formed in 1993 when the Maidstone District Scouts were split into 3 Maidstone Districts, Maidstone East, Maidstone West & Maidstone South, due to the number of people joining Scouting and the sheer size of the area involved.

The three Maidstone Scout Districts still survive today, with Maidstone East operating in an area to the North and East of Maidstone town centre.

There are seven Groups within the District, which all operate at least one Beaver Colony (aged 6 to 8), Cub Pack (aged 8 to 10 1/2) and Scout Troop (aged 10 1/2 to 14). In addition to this, there are also four District Explorer Scout Units which cater for 14 to 18 year olds.

Over the last few years membership within Maidstone East District Scouts has remained quite static, at around 700 members, which includes at least 80 adult volunteers within this number.

We will always try to accommodate young people within local Scouting, however there are times when a waiting list may be needed, as there are not always enough adults available to let more young people enjoy the fun and adventure of Scouting.
